2010 Graduating Seniors

Brianna Sporbert

Brianna is a senior high honors student at Pittsfield High School, and is planning on attending Western New England College in the fall.  At school she is a member of the Chamber Orchestra, National Honors Society and student council.  Brianna has been a member of the Pittsfield Figure Skating club for the 11 years that she has been skating.  She has competed in many competitions throughout New England and is a two time New England Regional Championship competitor, earning the pewter medal in 2007.  She has also competed in the Baystate Games for six years earning a silver and gold medal.  This past summer she also qualified and competed at the State Games of America in Colorado Springs, CO.

Brianna has been a member of the Pittsfield Pinwheels Synchronized Skating team for 10 years and has been a co-captain for 5 years.  Her best memories in skating come from the many competitions her and her teammates have competed in throughout the Northeast.  Her proudest moment on team was capturing the silver medal at this year’s Eastern Synchronized Figure Skating Championship where the pinwheels competed against 23 teams.

One of Brianna’s greatest accomplishments was becoming the third skater in Berkshire County to become a triple gold medalist in moves-in-the-field, dance and freestyle.  She earned her gold in moves-in-the-field in 2007 and both her dance and freestyle gold medals in 2009.

Last season Brianna completed the Apprenticeship Program and is now a coach with the club.  Brianna loves teaching kids of all ages, whether they are first time skaters or competing in local competitions.  As she goes off to college this year she is planning to continue teaching during her spare time.

“I would like to thank everyone who has ever supported me throughout the eleven years I’ve spent in this sport.  The rink will always be my second home and everyone there will always be my family.  I’ve made so many unforgettable memories with all my teammates and fellow skaters that nothing could change how much they mean to me.  I would like to thank Tracy, my coach, who has always been there for me on and off the ice helping me with situations that go beyond the sessions we spent together.  Thank you to my mother whose unconditional love and support has helped me become the person that I am today.  To all my family, friends, and students I will miss you greatly and would like to thank you for all that you have done for me.”

Molly McKenna

Molly will graduate with honors this spring from Lenox Memorial High School.  She currently interns in the human resources department at SABIC and has worked part time at the Olde Heritage Tavern in Lenox over the past four years.  She will be off to college in the fall and, although offered academic scholarships from several schools, she has not yet decided where to attend.

She has been involved with the PFSC since 1998 and achieved her gold level status in Moves in the Field in 2005, her gold level status in Ice Dancing in 2008 and will test for her senior gold level status for Freestyle this spring.  She has competed in local, regional, state and national competitions over the past twelve years. Highlights include winning a gold medal in the 2005 Bay State Games and a two-time qualifier (2006 and 2008) and silver medal winner (2006) in the State Games of America in Colorado Springs.  Molly is actively involved with the PFSC as a coach, skater and volunteer.  She headed up the Learn to Skate program during this past February vacation with fellow coach Melissa Moon.

With many people to thank for their support over the years, those most special to Molly are Jamie, who was her first coach
and provided such a great impression; Frank, who always helped with the skating show and made sure
the ice was ready for 6am practices; George from Skate Sport, who made sure Molly always had the best equipment and sharp skates; Tracy, who helped Molly work through all her dances and 7 years on the Pittsfield Pinwheels; Kelly, who is a great coach and, most importantly, Shannon, who has been Molly’s primary coach, friend and supporter for the past eleven years.  Molly would also like to thank her family for their support, her dad for the many years of driving to the rinks, her sister Annie for her support and friendship, and finally her number one fan, her mother, for the many hours of volunteering at the club, her constant love and support and just simply for always being there.
